“What is your Human Design-type?”
Someone asked me in a psychic fair where I was giving tarot card readings. I had no idea what she was talking about.
When she explained that Human Design is a bit like astrology, I was intrigued. She explained that there are certain personality types according to Human Design and that her type is Reflector, which is super rare. Only 1% of humanity are reflectors.
Ooh. Maybe I’m super rare too, I thought to myself, and wanted to know more about my Human Design.
I love to learn about systems that explain to us who we are. When I started studying astrology, I was fascinated with how accurately one could describe so many aspects of my personality just by looking at my birth chart. It doesn’t really make much rational sense to claim that the positions of our solar system planets at the time of our birth would define our personality strengths and weaknesses, our inclinations and interests, restrictions, and challenges. But as little as my rational mind liked to “believe” in astrology, my curiosity got me totally immersed in the interpretation of the charts.
When I learned to do reiki-healing, I pretty much wanted to go slab my hands on everyone I met. I was wondering why more people were not interested in this amazing energy that could do so much good for them. The same thing happened with astrology. As I started discovering what my own chart was telling me, I wanted to peek into everyone else’s charts as well. The first test subjects were my husband and kids, naturally. Then my other family members, friends, and anyone who would voluntarily give me their birth info. The happy hours at work became filled with mini-astrology readings for my colleagues… I’m so grateful that my fellow science professionals are open-minded enough to allow me to indulge in my curiosities as I tend to get excited and enthusiastic about all the new things I learn.
And now that someone flashed another system that enables a dive deep into self-discovery, there I went again. I got fascinated by Human Design and soon found out what my type was.
In addition to knowing my type, I have learned about my strategy and authority, and about the things that come naturally to me. Human Design chart, or the body graph, tells us what we may be absorbing from our environment, where conditioning shows up in our lives and what to look out for when we’re not in a good place emotionally, mentally, or physically. With Human Design, I’m finding more depth in myself, confirming the aspects I already knew were there, and giving myself more freedom to express all that I am, and what I have always known I want to express. And just like with astrology, with my newfound excitement for Human Design, I want to see everyone’s else’s body graphs too!!
Astrology and Human Design are wonderful self-exploration tools and can give you aha-moments about yourself. While it’s not necessary to rely on any system or a person to tell you who you are, or how you should behave, think, or feel, it’s sometimes interesting to see your inner world reflected on an Astrology chart or a Human Design body graph. It’s almost like we came here with a blueprint of sorts, and all these weird systems are giving us a puzzle we can start piecing together… And while we expect to be aware of most parts of ourselves, it doesn’t harm to explore if there could be aspects that we have pushed aside or are unaware of which could show up in those blueprints. What if you are a super rare Reflector, and you don’t know it? Wouldn’t that be exciting, or at least something to ponder?!
I love how all these different modalities like astrology, human design, tarot and oracle cards, and life coaching can open your mindset using slightly different approaches. Yet they all complement each other and give us more information to play with. They give us more to choose from. The freedom to collect, combine, strengthen, and form our personality and life that we wish to see for ourselves. It’s like having multiple friends who are all lovingly giving you a different perspective on your dilemma.
I’m always curious to find out more about myself and others. Sometimes for no other reason than to have a that interesting conversation with someone. Maybe I can be the one asking you next time we meet: “What is your human design type?”.
